HOW TO BOOST YOUR IMDB STARMETER
Lets face it, your IMDB star meter is important. Directors, producers and casting directors look at your IMDB profile and starmeter to get a sense of your experience, and yes, popularity – and like it or not, Hollywood is a popularity contest. Can you manipulate your starmeter? Sure… is it a good idea to pay to do so? …Not really.
IMDB frauds are easy to spot. A one week jump up to 323 when your normal ranking is 1,000,000 is a dead giveaway. A top 5000 ranking when you have 3 credits looks a little suspicious, and industry veterans can spot this type of manipulation.
So how do you boost your IMDB starmeter legitimately?
First, and most obviously, credits… the more you have, and the more high profile, the more likely people are to click on your IMDB profile page… which is the key metric for the starmeter ranking.
I know, I know, it’s tough to build credits quickly, but producing your own short films is a great way to rack up credits. Heck, you can even make movies on your iPhone now, so grab your acting class buddies and make a short over the weekend.
Speaking of shorts over the weekend… SplatterFest is a great way to get credits and a DVD. The film festival gives filmmakers a weekend to write, shoot and edit a horror short film. The festival releases a DVD and screens the films theatrically, and gives away cash and prizes. There are many of these short film competitions, and an aspiring actor should participate in as many as possible.
Share your IMDB page socially, via Facebook, Twitter and whatever else the new trendy network is.
Link your IMDB page in your email signature and in “about” or “bio” section of your social media profiles.
If you blog, link your IMDB page within the article, or author bio.
Pretty much anywhere you can think to stink a link that’s not obnoxious, do it.
BUT don’t be all about yourself… share the love. The best thing you can do in this industry is to help other people. Promote other actors, filmmakers, projects, etc. Recommend cast and crew. Be seen as a contributor to the community, and the community will contribute to you.
If this article helped you, click my IMDB… it will help me. 🙂
FANGORIA: PICKAXE MURDERS PART III
I star as the lead guitarist for an 80s glam rock band in the upcoming Pickaxe Murders Part III starring horror scream queen Tiffany Shepis… by the way, there are no parts 1 and 2… which is part of the genius marketing of this 80’s style horror film, written and directed by Jeremy Sumrall.
Here is an exclusive trailer and coverage by Fangoria!
