Here’s a still from last night’s shoot with Dwayne Smith. The scene is spoken entirely in Russian – Dwayne spent months meticulously preparing for the role. Special thanks to Julitta Pourciau who translated the dialogue and coached on dialect. And thanks to John Lansch and Drew Donovan behind the scenes.
DEEP TERROR
I’ve been in production on a new action/thriller called DEEP TERROR. It’s Die Hard on a mini-submersible – marine biologists caught up in a terrorist plot to recover the worlds most destructive weapon of mass destruction.
We’ve been filming for the last 2 weeks, and still going – shooting some green screen shots tonight. So far it’s been an amazing run… filmmaking continues to be one of the most challenging, yet rewarding professional experiences for me.
It’s quite a departure from my last film Spirit Camp – though despite the more serious tone, I do manage to keep some irreverently comic moments.
THE MARSHALL FRIDGE
It’s not often I get excited about a refrigerator… okay, I’ve never gotten excited about a refrigerator – until now.
When I was 12, I started playing guitar and instantly wanted a Marshall stack. (For those of you who don’t know, a Marshall stack is 2 cabinets stacked on top of each other. Each cab has 4, 12 inch speakers and is powered by a 100 watt head.)
As soon as I saved enough cash, I went and bought one. (Although I did put a Soldano SLO on it). BTW Soldano built amps for Eric Capton and Eddie Van Halen back in the day.
What does all this have to do with refrigerators?
Well, Marshall is introducing the half stack mini-fridge! This is perfect for any jam room. I have to have one. They hit stores in October… you can learn more here http://marshallfridge.com/
VARIAX JTV 59
I just added a new family member… the Variax JTV 59… I love Les Pauls, and this thing has a Les Paul body, and a shaped, cutaway neck that allows MUCH more access to the neck. It sounds great, the action is set perfectly, and I’m looking forward to putting it through it’s paces. I’ll post a full review with some audio samples soon… stay tuned… and listen for it on my next song!
MY COVER of MAD WORLD makes the HOUSTON PRESS 10 BEST
I recently recorded an a acoustic version of the Tears for Fears classic MAD WORLD, made famous by Gary Jules and the film Donnie Darko. I put my own spin on it in an attempt to do something a little different. Thankfully, the Houston Press thought that it didn’t suck. It made their top 10 best covers. Thank you. Check out the full article feature some other great Houston musicians.
